Cartoon Modern style – study

I love the Cartoon Modern style, so I did this study of a car from a Disney advert from circa 1955. The character designer was Tom Oreb, and the background designer was Victor Haboush.
The cartoon modern style often looks very simple, but I believe it’s often actually very complex and requires a great deal of skill to achieve. In drawing this car, I learned just how complex cartoon modern designs can be, and although the shapes and colours and lines of the design are so clear and bold, a tremendous amount of skill and understanding of the construction of the car was required in its design. I think that in doing this study I improved my understanding of the style, and in turn also improved my design skills.
