Character Design: Further Development

I’ve completed the three neutral pose turnarounds that I started during Bianca Ansems’ session

Drawing a central line down each one illuminated a few ways in which I’d drawn the guy slightly wonkaloid, so I re-drew him in his third pose. It took a few tries to get the perspective right. Although making him in a 3D programme would possibly make the process easier and quicker, drawing each turnaround in 2D is helping my drawings skills a lot, and my understanding of perspective with organic shapes. I also like to draw very loosely, and this exercise requires me to be very precise, which I’m finding difficult, but my skills are improving

I’m also somehow learning about bean/potato anatomy

I have also taken Bianca’s suggestion on board and am drawing a version of him as a potato, with his limbs like sprouts. I really liked this idea, and drawing this new version of him has been a lot of fun.

I also realised how versatile he is as a character. It’s easy to imagine a lot of different versions of him, and thinking about him as a character a bit more, I decided it would suit him to be able to morph his form easily. For example, if he wanted to reach something on a high shelf, his legs could extend to get him to the right height. He isn’t particularly visually complex, but I really like simple designs, and I think his simplicity lends him well to versatility.
