this scene is so nice, cause there are so many interesting characters on the street
it looks like a lot of thought was put into the background characters here; i’m interested in all of them
i’m aware of the constraints that often mean background characters are not given much individuality, and also the interest in making important characters stand out. but i much prefer this, where the background characters are just as interesting as the main ones.
it makes the film so much more interesting
who’s this guy? what’s he writing? and the guy on the right, he’s still so noticeable even though he’s far away. they’re all so perfectly framed too. cary is pretty much On The Line re: thirds, and he’s large in the frame, red scarf man is tiny, and writing man is between them. the composition is gorge tbh. also there’s a lot of colour on the left, cary cuts the frame and on his other side there’s barely any colour at all. this is just one little frame! it’s beautiful
nice one Stanley Donen
there’s no need to have this person painting in the middle of the street. at all. it’s exquisite. everyone is interesting this guy’s face rules audrey in all white cutting against the colour, almost halving the frameyoung black family with a curious baby, having coffee n pastries outside a cafe. i wanna know about their day and what they’re talking about this woman in all-red with her husband in all-black. the colour blocks are beauts. the dappling of red across the frame. bbbbbboii oh boy
