Walk Cycles 2: Electric Boogaloo / Mood Change Walkz

This might be attempt 5… I just couldn’t get in2 the Swing of this one. During the lesson on this assignment, which was online due to covid restrictions, I was unable to film myself for a reference, as my bedroom/kitchen were too small, so I used two different walks I’d done in uni the week before and spliced them together, but it still wasn’t really working for me.

Today I’m in a different building as I’m visiting my ma for Christmas, so I filmed a reference for a second attempt. I used that video, combined with the previous two uni videos together to make the above rough. I wanted the animation to look natural-ish, but also wanted to exaggerate the movements. It’s a tricky one, but I’m learning a lot through doing it. When I add the in-betweens and smooth the movement out it’s a lil less despair-inducing.

I put these lines in as a sort of height guide for different stages in the animation. It helped because I was using 3+ videos as references, the proportions of all of which continuously changed, so this meant I had guidelines to work against

I’m adding things like the up-and-down bounce at the end to communicate extra joyful Energy, and an enlarged head coinciding with the comprehension of the sign and initial explosion of joy. I’m not sure whether these will work for someone else watching the animation, but for me it’s making the animation more satisfying to watch and fun to make
